Mitsubishi Philippines to Launch New Crossover Vehicle

Mitsubishi RVR

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines is giving car buyers something new to look forward this year.

The Japanese brand is bringing in the RVR, a compact crossover, in the second half of 2010, a well-placed source from Mitsubishi Philippines said.

The RVR is a compact crossover with an all-new 1.8-liter MIVEC gasoline engine.

Japan's Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) said the RVR will be released in spring before it goes to other markets like North America, Europe and the rest of Asia.

"With the RVR, MMC expands its crossover lineup, which already includes the full-size Pajero and the midsize Outlander," Mitsubishi Japan said.

The RVR is approximately 4.3 meters long "featuring high fuel efficiency via its lightweight compact body."

"The all-new RVR is a compact crossover that provides high environmental efficiency and has a compact body while providing ample utility space and high performance," Mitsubishi said.

Special Inspection Recall Campaign for Mitsubishi Strada and Montero Sport

Special Inspection Recall Campaign for Mitsubishi Strada and Montero Sport

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) recently announced to the Department of Trade and Industry that it will have a special inspection recall of Mitsubishi Strada pick up models which were sold from September 2006 to June 2009 and for Mitsubishi Montero Sport 3.2 GLS and GLS SE 4x4 A/T models sold from September 2008 to February 2009.

The special inspection recall is to check the proper tightening torque of the mounting bolts of the upper suspension arm. The reason for the insufficient initial tightening torque could be caused by possible mis-aligned holes of the two metal sheets of the front upper arm. The inspection procedure is estimated to take 2 hours at the most.

Although there has been no reported occurrence of failures on the front suspension, MMPC was directed by its principal Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Japan to conduct the inspection recall. MMPC also informed the Office of Secretary Jesli Lapuz of the Department and Trade and Industry of the inspection recall plan.

Mr. Masahiko Ueki, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines said that MMPC has already mobilized its Customer Service Department to trace the units from its customer data base. He said that all the Mitsubishi Motors Philippines service centers nationwide have been alerted to inspect the problem on all suspected units.

MMPC will be issuing out the Vehicle Identification Numbers of the 6,488 units of Strada pick ups and 2,509 Montero Sport 3.2 GLS and GLS SE 4x4 A/T which could be potentially affected by the insufficient tightening torque. Vehicle owners may use the auto-find form to verify if their Vehicle Identification Number is included in the list. Owners can also get in touch with MMPC Customer Service Department c/o Dave Doctor or Marlon Lim at telephone nos. 658-8406 to 07 locals 3085 and 3086 or e-mail them at d-doctor@mitsubishi-motors.com.ph / m-lim@mitsubishi-motors.com.ph to arrange schedule of inspection.

MMPC Milestone and the NEW 240-HP Lancer EX Ralliart

500,000th Unit Milestone Achievement for Mitsubishi Motors Philippines

Commemorating the recommencement of MMPC’s passenger car production as well as the 500,000 unit milestone, MMC President Osamu Masuko was in the country last week to partake in the celebrations. Says Mr. Masuko, “Mitsubishi Motors Philippines has been resilient and has persisted with uninterrupted manufacturing and marketing activities through periods of difficulty including the economic crisis of the early 1980s. Through periods of recovery and growth, MMPC has expanded and has been aggressively pioneering advancements in the different manufacturing processes.”

However, MMPC’s achievement is not without serious challenges. MMPC can easily reach the 600,000 production mark in just five years, but government support through economic and political stability is vital. According to Mr. Masuko, the government must implement the proposed Motor Vehicle Development Plan or MVDP and put an end to the importation of used cars. He added that the more new cars are sold here, the more companies like Mitsubishi will consider assembling locally, resulting in more affordable cars. He also reiterated that the government must also provide incentives for both car manufacturers and car parts makers, specifically those engaged in local production and assembly; a timely statement given that the national elections next year can pave the way to change in both governance and policies.

Though the elections are still five months away, and no one knows what will happen by then; MMPC has given its solid backing of Philippine operations, giving some glimpse of what to expect in 2010 and beyond. Of course, the first is the locally assembled Lancer EX with its revised Evolution X-style nose and black-out tail lamps. According to a product literature provided by MMPC, this will be followed by the all-wheel drive, turbocharged 240-horsepower Lancer EX Ralliart. MMPC President Masahiko Ueki also confirmed the arrival of the Outlander-based RVR crossover in late 2010. A diesel version of the Fuzion MPV and a new global small car is also being considered.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines’s positive attitude towards the Philippine automotive market as well as its new and improvement manufacturing facility will undoubtedly mean they can indeed reach their 600,000 production milestone in five years. Their commitment to provide the best in the car ownership experience has awarded them not only the J.D. Power Asia Pacific Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) and Customer Service Index (CSI), but also a place in Philippine culture as well. After all, no other car manufacturer has its cars colorfully nicknamed like “itlog”, “pizza pie” and “pating” than Mitsubishi.
